Did you notice that the washing machine began to hum and jump during the spin cycle? Perhaps the reason is the imbalance of the drum. If you have such a problem, you need to solve it, because excessive noise and vibration not only interfere with you, but also leads to wear on the parts of the washing machine.
In earlier models, the imbalance leads to strong vibrations during the spin cycle. And modern models can stop if the system fails to resume balance.
Why is the drum unbalanced
Imbalance of the drum occurs during the spin cycle. The linen is knocked down in one lump, which causes an imbalance, and the car shakes a lot. Below are the main reasons why the imbalance occurs:
- When washing bedding, smaller items could get in the duvet cover. The result is a large lump of linen.
- Too much or too little laundry is in the drum.
- Washing at a temperature of more than 60 degrees is accompanied by an additional intake of water during rinsing. This can lead to a small imbalance. Pay attention to this when choosing a water temperature.
- Mechanical problems can also be the cause. Bearing wear or a rusty, bent shaft leads to increased vibration, and spinning may not occur at all.
Some models of washing machines give an error code on the display, which means imbalance.
How to balance the drum yourself
The balancing of the drum of the washing machine is automatically integrated into modern models of Samsung, LG, Bosch, Ardo. This additional feature is called “Imbalance Control”. In this case, the system will not allow the washer to go to spin until the problem is resolved. To do this, the drum rotates in different directions, then slowing down, then accelerating.
If you set the spin cycle at maximum speed, but the imbalance is not eliminated, then the machine will significantly reduce the spin speed so as not to harm its parts. Or spin will be stopped altogether. In any case, you will get almost wet laundry from the drum.
How to balance yourself? Proceed sequentially:
- Unplug the washing machine.
- If the car stopped full of water, you need to drain it.
- At the bottom of the front of the case you will see a small hatch.
- Use a flat screwdriver to release the latches and open the hatch door.
- Substitute the container, unscrew the filter from the housing.
- After draining the water, open the hatch door.
- Spread the laundry manually evenly or remove half of the items from the tank.
- Then resume washing.
It is easier to center the laundry in top-loading washers, since there is no need to drain the water to open the door. If after distributing things the washing machine shakes again during the spin cycle, check the balancing stones. They are located behind the front and rear of the CMA and are attached to the drum. Sometimes their fasteners become loose, which leads to an imbalance.
How to avoid imbalance
Make sure that you load the drum according to the norm for this washing machine. If the washing machine is designed for three kilograms of laundry, this does not mean that you need to hammer the drum to failure. It should be filled in 2/3 of the volume. And:
- Do not fill the machine with bulky items. When wet, they become heavy and can cause overload and imbalance.
- Try to load large and small things together for the right balance of AGR.
If you are just going to buy a washing machine, select the load volume according to the amount of everyday laundry items. If, choosing a drum volume of 7-8 kg, you cannot collect enough for a daily load, washing once a week will not always be convenient.
