As you know, the foundation is the foundation, the basis of any structure, requiring the lion's share of the finance allocated for construction. Naturally, developers have repeatedly made attempts to save on the foundation, investing less money and materials in it, but in the end the house turned out to be flimsy and short-lived. The use of tires as the basis for the foundation began more than 10 years ago, and since then thousands of people have made the foundation of tires with their own hands. The idea is good, first of all, because the construction of such a foundation does not require professional building skills, plus the necessary material can be obtained for free.
Pros and cons of building a foundation of tires
The foundation of used tires has many advantages, such as:
- low cost of building materials;
- cost saving: both physical and material;
- excellent waterproofing;
- resistance to seasonal deformations that occur during temperature changes;
- earthquake resistance - resistance to mechanical vibrations, without the formation of cracks (any foundation of the house may crack during shocks, but the foundation of the tires - no);
- elasticity, excellent cushioning properties and long-term operation of the material;
- relative environmental friendliness of the material (the main thing is that the tires do not go to the surface);
- ease of arrangement of the foundation.
Among the disadvantages of building the foundation of a house from used tires, one can distinguish the excessive width of tires for load-bearing wall structures. In this case, you will have to work hard to find a way to veneer and gracefully draw extra width. In addition, if the tires protrude to the surface of the earth, they will release harmful substances into the soil, so you need to know how to make the foundation of the tires correctly, and to observe the technology during the development process.
Building Tools and Materials
In order to build a foundation from used tires, you will need:
- used car tires;
- shovel and rake;
- sand and gravel;
- roofing material;
- building level;
- bricks and planks for arranging formwork;
- reinforcing rods;
- channel.
The construction of the slab foundation of tires
With the help of tires with your own hands, you can make 2 types of base:
- Tiled.
- Columnar.
The first option involves the use of tires under the base plate. In this case, the entire technology of building a basis can be divided into the following stages.
First of all, it is necessary to remove the fertile soil layer from the construction site. Usually a layer is removed with a thickness of not more than 25-35 cm. The recessed recessed plane formed after removing the soil is leveled using the building level.
After the surface is leveled, you can start laying tractor, car or bus tires. The larger the tire’s diameter, the better the waterproofing, the stronger and more stable the foundation.. Tires fit right next to each other, flat.
The required number of layers depends on the initial tire thickness, for example, tractor tires are enough to lay in one row, and car tires are better to be laid in two rows. Also, the required height of the tire layers is due to the characteristics of the soil in the built-up area. If it is characterized by high bogging, the foundation should be made higher, and the tires should be laid in 2 or more rows.
If a basement or a subfloor is provided in the garage or house, this must be taken into account and do not put tires in this place. After finishing work with the foundation, you will need to do it yourself with a brick to lay the walls of the future underground.
The empty space between the tires should be covered with fine gravel or broken brick. When using sand and slag, the house can cause severe shrinkage, so this material is not recommended.
A layer of roofing material is laid on top of the tire base and a timber formwork is constructed with sides 10-15 cm high.
After that, concrete can be poured into the formwork with your own hands. The formwork is not removed before the concrete pouring has completely dried, and this will happen after at least 7-10 days.
Arrangement of a column foundation from tires
The second development option involves the use of tires as pillars of a structure. To install them with your own hands, you must pre-calculate the location of the corners of the future building and outline the points between them.
As in the first case, you must first remove the fertile soil layer. Then you need to dig a pit of a suitable size and tamp the soil inside it, filling it after that with small gravel.
At the next stage, it is necessary to mark the area and drive small pegs into the tire installation sites. After that, using a tape measure, you need to measure the distance between the individual pegs around the perimeter and diagonally. If the deviation is small, you can start laying.
Tires are worn directly on the pegs, after which they are aligned horizontally with the help of a level. Inside the well of tires, a filler is poured: crushed stone or expanded clay.
The filler should be filled both in the well formed by the layers of tires, and in each tire separately. After that, roofing material is laid on top of the rubber, necessary so that the concrete mortar poured over the tires does not drain.
At the last stage, around the perimeter of the subfloor perimeter of the roofing material, you need to install the formwork with the sides 10-15 cm high.As in the previous version, the formwork is poured with concrete, and after a few days when it hardens, you can lay the lower trim from the timber. To further strengthen the base, iron reinforcement is placed in it during concrete pouring. Over time, when this reinforced concrete slab dries out, it can serve as the floor of the future home.
In addition, there is another easy way to build a foundation from tires with your own hands. In this case, car tires are laid around the perimeter of the building, poured with concrete mortar and tied with channel bars. After this, the lower crown of the building is snapped.
So, the foundation of the tires can easily be built with your own hands as a basis for a garage, outbuilding, gazebo, bathhouse or barn. This is both a great way to save on building materials, and a way to recycle used rubber tires from automobiles. Given all the advantages of this material and the functional characteristics of the resulting buildings, we can say that this original method is becoming increasingly popular.
