Sweet and savory snack - who doesn't like prunes? Compotes, desserts, fillings and even meat dishes with it turn out delicious, delicious. And among other things, it improves the intestines, cleanses the body, protects the heart, helps to focus and has many more beneficial properties. But, like any berries, it seems logical to wash the prunes first. Is it necessary to do this and how to cope with the task?
A little bit about production
Whether prunes need to be washed depends on how they were dried. If this is a reputable, well-established factory, then fresh berries are first washed on it, and then sent to closed drying units. And after the snacks are packed in closed containers that protect the dessert from dust, insects and the hands of loaders, sellers and curious buyers. Often such prunes are already pitted and soft - you can eat them right away.
A completely different issue is prunes, hastily scattered in bags or trays. No information about the manufacturer - accordingly, no guarantees. It is quite possible that nobody washed the berries, but even from the garden hose, they did not rinse them right on the trees. Such dried fruits have to be washed. And here a problem arises - how ??
Life hack
If the rush is big - you can quit any, even moderately dirty dried fruit, to boil like that. But the compote will have to be boiled for at least 15 minutes, and after that - strain through two layers of gauze, otherwise, although it will be disinfected, the “trash” will fall into the drink.
How to wash dried fruits
Since prunes and dried apricots wrinkle strongly after drying, trying to wash them with running water is useless and even dangerous: ricochet drops will spread dirt and intestinal infection everywhere (soft berries should be especially suspicious: their moisture is a shelter for all kinds of bacteria).
Instruction:
- Arrange dried fruits in one layer in a pan.
- Boil water in a convenient way.
- Pour the berries and leave for a few minutes.
- Discard slightly swollen snacks (just throw them in a colander or sieve - so that the dirt escapes through the cells) or squeeze a slotted spoon and drain the water with particles of sand and dirt.
- Rinse with a stream of filtered or boiled water, massaging each berry with your fingers, removing the remaining mote.
- Allow to dry under a clean cloth if the berries are not cooked or brewed in tea.
Prunes are one of the most delicious and versatile dried fruits in use. In order not to risk sand biting or damaging your stomach, steam berries with boiling water before eating - and enjoy delicious desserts and meat dishes.
